According to the Nepal Insurance Association, among the insurance claims for damage to the physical structure during the demonstration on August 23 and 24, all small claims can be paid by Tihar.

As of Sunday, a total of 2,448 claims have been filed with the insurance companies. Among them, about 1,700 claims are of small nature (less than two crores) and they are ready to pay them by next Tihar, said Birendra Baidwar Chhetri, President of Nepal Insurance Association.

Nepal Economic Journalists Association (Nafiz) organized in Kathmandu on Tuesday in an interactive program on 'Need for revival of the economy', Chhetri said that only about 12/13 percent of the damage caused in the movement was insured. 

Referring to the initial estimate of the loss of about 80 billion rupees by the Federation of Nepal Chamber of Commerce and Industry, he said, 'It seems that only 20/25 percent of that loss is insured . If we remove one or two big claims, only about 12/13 percent of them have access to insurance.' He said that the insurance claims are much less than they expected because there is no insurance for government structures and many private structures are far from the reach of insurance.

As of Sunday, insurance claims worth 22 billion 25 million 65 million rupees have been received in insurance companies. A total of 2,448 claims have been made during that period. Among them, 54 percent or 1 thousand 343 claims are from Bagmati province. Second most 322 claims have been made in Koshi province and thirdly 246 claims have been made in Madhesh province. Similarly, 202 insurance claims were made in Lumbini Province, 184 in Gandaki, 159 in Far West and 22 in Karnali Province, according to the Insurance Authority.
