What you should know
A new arrival room has been put into operation from Monday towards the domestic terminal of the Gautam Budh International Airport at Bhairahwa in Rupandehi. Passengers and their relatives had to suffer because the arrival hall of the domestic terminal, built 50 years ago, was cramped. A spacious and well-equipped arrival hall has been brought into operation to end the inconvenience.
Gautam Budh Airport General Manager Pratap Babu Tiwari started the arrival hall by giving a bouquet to 75-year-old Ganapati Bhandari from Gulmi who arrived at Bhairawa from Kathmandu on Monday afternoon. Passengers arriving from Kathmandu by Buddha and Yeti Airlines were welcomed in the new arrival hall. In this way, the airport distributed laddoos to the passengers who entered the cabin.
Airport General Manager Tiwari said that after the operation of the new arrivals hall, the passengers have to be coached in the narrow hall and the relatives who came to pick them up have to wait in the sun for a long time. "The safety of the passengers is as important as the facilities they should get at the airport," he said. Earlier, the building was used as the residence of the police stationed for airport security. In the new arrival room, a bench has been arranged for people who come to receive their relatives to sit. A separate counter has been constructed for work including
cargo. Previously, when going to pick up goods from the ship, you had to get a pass and complete a security check. "Now that kind of hassle is gone," said Tiwari, "Now we have made it easy to understand our belongings from the outside." Separate toilets for men and women have been arranged in the new room.
The airport has said that within 2/3 months, an automatic conveyor belt will be installed to transport passengers' luggage. The tender process has been started for that. Soon after, the expansion work of the old terminal building will be started. General Manager Tiwari said that they are going to expand the existing building and add all the necessary facilities for passengers. He said that the design for the internal terminal expansion has been prepared and the contract process will be started soon.
