There is no major damage to the road infrastructure, work is being done on a 20,000 plan

What you should know

At present, work is being done on the contracted projects under the union, state and local levels. While demonstrations and vandalism were taking place in the main cities and district headquarters, the construction of major infrastructures did not stop anywhere except for ruptures.

Ravi Singh, president of the Federation of Nepal Construction Professionals, said that there has been no information about any major damage at the construction site. "There has been major damage in the buildings that have been constructed and handed over," he said, "but there is no such damage in the projects that are under construction."

The houses of people's representatives who are the heads and deputy heads of the local level have been damaged in the construction business. "At present, there are about 20,000 plans and projects in operation from small to large, with contract agreements at the union, state and local levels," he said, "which is around 6 billion". "All over the country, from the capital Kathmandu to the wards of a district, as many plans and projects are being built through contracts," he said, "the estimated number of all of them is ."

According to President Singh, an estimated loss of more than 1 billion rupees has been caused by the fire in the government buildings that have been constructed and handed over. "There is no problem in the ongoing projects," he said, "all projects are being worked on."

While the city was becoming chaotic, work was also being done on the Kathmandu/Tarai Madhesh expressway (fast track) connecting Kathmandu-Tarai Madhesh. Now the construction of the 81 meter high bridge is going on . Similarly, tunnels are also being constructed. The Nepali Army has informed that the work of the said project has not been affected. The physical progress of the project under the management of the army is 43 percent. The construction cost of this project has been estimated at 2 trillion 11 billion 93 million rupees. 80 billion rupees have been spent so far. The first level of black sheet work has been completed on the Nagadhunga-Malekhu, Nagadhunga-Naubise road section . Nowbise-Malekhu section is also being worked on . On the other hand, the crusher plot in the Malekhu-Muglin section was damaged when the protesters set it on fire.

According to Vijay Jaisi, director general of the road department, the risk of delaying the construction period has increased due to the burning of the crusher plant that produces construction materials. "Road upgrading work was being done in this section," he said, "There was a problem after the crusher was set on fire during the demonstration a few days ago. It will take more than 6 months to install the plant." He said that construction was not stopped elsewhere during the demonstration. Although the Muglin-Pokhara road section was affected for some time, it has started now. Chundaraj Dhakal, the project director of the Directorate of Projects (ADB), said that the work was affected for a few days due to the burning and vandalism of the office during the demonstration in Ambukhaireni-Pokhara section. "Even though the work was affected for a few days, it has started now," he said. Although only the work of the market area was affected during the performance period, the relevant project offices have informed that it has resumed now.

Construction on roads under the Asian Development Bank (ADB) did not stop during the demonstration. Narayangadh-Butwal, Muglin-Pokhara, Kamala-Kanchanpur, Kakdvitta-Laukhi sections are being worked on . Likewise, the work of Kamala-Dhalkebar, Butwal-Gorusinghe, which is being constructed under the World Bank, is also ongoing. Director General Jaisi said that the Nagadhunga-Sisnekhola tunnel, which is being prepared to come from the English New Year, is also being worked on. "During the demonstration, construction projects in the urban areas were somewhat affected," he said, "otherwise, the work did not stop anywhere else, it continued to go on, even though the offices in the district were arson and vandalized, there was no damage to the machines at the construction site."

BP Highway, which was damaged by floods in October last year, is also continuing to remove landslides and make the road smooth for Dasain . During the demonstration, the regular work on this highway did not stop. On the other hand, the landslide removal work continued in the Timure to Rasuwagadhi section under the Syafrubensi-Rasuwagadhi road.
