Premier Wires Industry, operating in the Sunsari-Morang Industrial Corridor, has received a quality certificate from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). As the first industry to export electrical wires produced in Nepal, Premier Wires getting BIS has opened the door to new market expansion for the Nepali electrical wire industry.

Which is expected to establish Nepali products as a trusted brand in other international markets including India. This industry, run by Sharda Group in Morang's Budhiganga Rural Municipality, produces wires covered by a strong and durable plastic sheath (PVC), both flexible and rigid wires used from ordinary homes to industries, which can withstand up to 11,000 volts.

BIS awarded the quality mark on 13th August (19th August). According to Pawan Sharda, the owner of the industry, an IS (Indian Standards) certificate under BIS is mandatory for exporting any product to the Indian market.

'Earlier, we were mainly exporting wire to Bangladesh and Bhutan,' Sharda said, 'There was a lot of demand in India too, but because the legal process was incomplete, easy export was not possible. Now the way is open.'

Premier Wires has been sending electrical wires to India, Bangladesh and Bhutan until now. The industry claims that access to the Indian market will be easier and more competitive with BIS. According to industrialist Sharda, the practice of using BIS approved cables has increased in most of the electrical projects, industries and residential sectors in Nepal.

Earlier there was a compulsion to import Indian BIS certified material. 'Now BIS certified cables are produced in Nepal, which will increase self-sufficiency in the country's market,' Sharda said.

BIS approved cables are said to be used in homes, offices, factories and large infrastructure projects. It states that the provisions under Indian Standard IS 694:2010 have been met.
