At the moment, the farmers of Jumla are busy picking apples. Farmers in the lower areas of the district have picked apples and sold them to traders, while farmers in the upper areas are busy picking apples.

  apple picking has started in all 60 villages of seven rural municipalities, a municipality in the

district. Although the production of apples is less this year, traders are reaching the orchards and buying apples because of the good quality fruits. Farmers say that they are selling apples for 70 rupees per kg in the garden.

Apples from some orchards in the district have already reached the market.   'Apple picking in Lekali area has just started,' said farmer Hark Bahadur Budha, 'Even though the district is the same, it ripens at different times depending on the place.' 

Earlier, the Agricultural Development Office used to set the price of apples, but this time the farmers themselves set the price and sell it. "Some of the apple farmers have taken it to sell by themselves," the old man said, "many farmers have sold it to traders who come to the village."

This year, due to hail and drought, apple production has declined. Agricultural Development Office Jumla has informed that about 40 percent less apples have grown compared to last year. According to the office Now the apples are sent to the market only after measuring whether they are good or not. "The work of collecting data on the production, export and income of apples has already started," said Ram Bhakta Adhikari, head of the office.

According to him, Nagm Police Station on Karnali Highway has been given responsibility for data collection. The checkpoint is doing the work of keeping the data of every cargo vehicle carrying apples. 

Right now, work is going on from picking apples, carrying apples to the road, and placing them in vehicles and transporting them . Due to lack of Jumli apple cartons on time, farmers are sending apples to Indian and Chinese apple cartons. It has been found that some farmers are also using Golbheda cartoons from Terai. Because of this, farmers are worried about whether the identity of Jumli apple will be erased. 

Now the Prime Minister's Agriculture Modernization Project, Project Implementation Unit Apple Superzone has brought and distributed 11,000 cartoons. Agricultural Development Office Jumla has brought 12 thousand cartoons written 'Zumli Apple'. It has been seen that small farmers are facing problems as 50% subsidy is given to groups and cooperatives.

Jumli apples are now being bought and sold in Surkhet, Nepalgunj, Butwal, Chitwan, Kathmandu and other cities. In Jumla, 4 thousand 400 hectares of land are being cultivated for apples, but this year only 2 thousand 900 hectares of apples have yielded fruit, according to the Agricultural Development Office. 'Apples have changed the lifestyle of farmers,'  Ram Bhakta Adhikari, head of the Agricultural Development Office in Jumla, said , 'If there is no easy way to transport, we will have to suffer every year.' Foreign varieties of Gala, Golden Fuji and Jonaprins varieties of apples are also cultivated here.
