Turmeric produced by local farmers is processed and packaged locally and brought to the market under the 'Maya Dharane' brand, which is becoming popular. Many people have not only liked Maya Dharane Besar, they are also supporting and posting pictures of Besar packets on social media. Most of the people who come to visit Dharan now bring Turmeric as Koseli.
Samir Tamang, a member of the Board of Directors of Maya Dharan Besar, said that by branding Dharan as Koseli, the atmosphere is ready to be bought by guests and tourists. According to him, Maya Dharane Turmeric worth Rs. 38 lakh has been sold within a month. The market price of a kilo of turmeric is 800 rupees. Tamang said that 300 kg of turmeric is produced daily from Maya Dharane turmeric industry. He said, '300 kg of turmeric is produced per day, even so it is difficult to meet the demand of the consumers.'
Maya Dharan Turmeric can now be bought from various grocery stores in Dharan, he said. Tamang said, "Orders are coming from various places in Nepal, and now more orders are coming from abroad."
According to Tamang, farmers are given up to 300 rupees per kilogram depending on the quality of the ground. He said that farmers of Dharan sub-metropolitan city are still collecting turmeric. He informed that 9 employees are working in the factory from washing and drying turmeric to packaging.
Dharane Farmers Society, Consumer Board of Directors has collaborated with Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City. Tamang said that the sub-metropolitan city has also bought necessary machines for processing in the factory from building construction.
Social worker Leela Bhujel says that bringing local products to foreign level by branding them is a development step. 'Maya Dharane Basar has received as much fame and love as it is not only for Maya Dharane but for Nepali products,' she says. He is of the opinion that not only Dharan but Nepal as a whole will develop if industries can be operated and made self-sufficient by giving importance to local products.
'Maya Dharane' is the idea of Turmeric Industry Mayor Hark Sampang. After he brought the agenda of opening a turmeric industry in ward number 20, the executive meeting approved it. This ward is also considered a turmeric pocket area. The construction committee has informed that an investment of 16 lakh 50 thousand from the sub-metropolitan municipality and 2 lakh 8 thousand 611 rupees from the consumers were made to build the building of turmeric industry.
