Nepal Chamber of Commerce has said that it will fully support the Sudurpaschim Province Investment and Development Conference. For the conference to be held in Far West on 1st and 2nd of November, the Chamber is going to assist in matters such as investment facilitation and publicity.
In a discussion held on Sunday with the Chief Minister of Far West Province Kamal Bahadur Shah, the Minister of the Province and members of the Provincial Planning Commission at the Chamber Building located in Jamal, Kathmandu, Chamber President Kamlesh Kumar Agarwal pledged full support for the investment conference. Chairman Agarwal says that selection of profitable projects and policy reforms are necessary for this.
'For the economic development of Far West, the province has immense potential of natural resources . If there is a policy reform, the private sector will come to invest on its own,' he said. Water and investment are of the same nature, wherever it falls, it flows.' Industry, mineral products, tourism, information technology, energy, agriculture, herbs, physical infrastructure, education and health sectors have been prioritized in the
conference. Sudurpaschim Province has high potential in hydropower, agricultural production, tourism and cross-border trade. Chairman Agarwal said that hydropower projects like Pancheshwar, Karnali and Paschim Seti will contribute greatly to the national economy. As the province is agriculture-dominated, it is possible to attract investment focused on rice, corn, wheat, fruits, spices and herbs based industries, processing and export-focused investment, according to the Chamber.
The Chamber has also suggested to prepare to prioritize tax-relief, land arrangement, one-door system and public-private partnership (PPP) model to create policy and investment-friendly environment in the investment conference. Chairman Agarwal said that there will be long-term benefits from environment-friendly industry, organic farming and renewable energy projects.
The Chief Minister of Sudurpaschim Province, Shah said that the support of the Chamber is important for the development of Sudurpaschim and offered for cooperation. He said that the government will take initiatives for external investment only after determining the internal investment environment in the province. Stating that there is immense potential for investment in the province, Chief Minister Shah said that the goal is to create jobs and deliver the products of Far West to the markets of neighboring countries.
The outgoing president of the Chamber of Commerce, Rajendra Malla, emphasized on the need for a policy arrangement so that barren land in the state can be put to good use. He said that the state government can benefit by collecting the data of the youth who have learned skills from abroad. Deepak Malhotra, senior vice president of the chamber, opined that hydropower projects should be given top priority in the state.
