In the Kodari section (Eco) of the Kodari highway, the Tatopani crossing, which was blocked by Monday's landslide, is yet to be put into operation. Buddharaj Basnet, president of Sindhupalchok Industry and Commerce Association, said that the road opening work was immediately stopped after the landslide started again on Thursday.

"The rain has not stopped, trying to build a road by force can be another risk," he said, "the canal is still closed." Containers carrying materials worth crores of rupees are stranded in China and across the country, if this continues, the traders will not be able to deliver the goods in time. From today they are forced to use porters again.'

Basnet said that since the border did not open even on Thursday, the porters started carrying the fruit due to the fear of rotting. After the goods got stuck in the border area, they have started bringing hot water through porters by spending up to 50,000 more per container.

According to Suraj Maharjan, information officer of the Charikot road division office, difficulties have arisen in the maintenance and reconstruction of the rainy season roads.

Sujit Basnet, vice president of the Nepal Himalayan Cross Border Commerce Association, said that the crossing could not be opened because the road reconstruction work could not proceed as the rain did not stop. "The North Tatopani border crossing which was opened after almost three weeks lasted for four days, at that time 50/60 containers of fruit and festival materials entered Nepal," he said, "30/35 empty containers entered China from here, and businessmen are upset because the closed border is not opened again."

Last Thursday, containers carrying goods started entering Nepal after the road was opened in Eko after about three weeks. 14/1500 containers are parked in expensive warehouse parking in China's Lhasa, Sigatse, Nyalam, while 6/700 containers are parked in Kerung. More than a dozen containers   came to Liping and Kodari markets and stopped after the landslide.
