Full capacity power generation from Mandu Hydro after 11 months

What you should know

The 22 MW Mandu Hydropower, which was damaged by the Bagmati floods on October 11 and 12 last year, has started generating electricity again at full capacity from Thursday. After the reconstruction, Mandu Hydropower started producing 50 percent electricity from July 19 last year.

Manoj Singh, senior technician of Mandu Hydropower, said, "Electricity has been produced at full capacity since Thursday." After the reconstruction, 11 megawatts were produced in the first phase. The reconstruction work of the flood-damaged structure was started from last December. More than 60 people a day were employed as technicians and laborers.

The road from Cisneri market to the project site was damaged by the flood. Mandu Hydro repaired the road and opened the road leading to the project site and proceeded with the reconstruction work.

The headworks, powerhouse, penstock pipe and electricity tower of Mandu Hydropower, which is producing electricity by keeping a production house in Bagmati Dobhan-8, Bhimfedi Rural Municipality, Makwanpur, were damaged by floods and landslides. Sundar Shrestha, chief operating officer of Hydropower, said that the project has been producing 22 megawatts of electricity since 2075.

Mandu Hydropower Company of the private sector and a Chinese company have jointly invested electricity from Bagmati water. With the help of Siichwang Heichwang Chinese Company, Mandu Hydropower started the construction of Bagmati small hydropower project from June 2072 with an investment of four billion. The project was inaugurated on Chait 19, 2075. Bagmati and Koga water was constructed in the Ipapanchkanya Dovan and a 10 to 13 meter high dam was taken through a tunnel to the power house at Bagrabensi in Ipapanchkanya to generate electricity.

The flood also damaged the 55-meter long dam built in Bagmati. 12.4 cusecs of water per second flows through the dam through the tunnel. The powerhouse is 2,440 meters away from the dam built in Bagmati. The company has an agreement to sell the electricity produced by the project to the electricity authority at 4 rupees 40 paise per unit in summer and 8 rupees 40 paise per unit in winter. The substation of Kulekhani I is 13 and a half kilometers away from the powerhouse of the

project. 42 towers have been built to deliver the generated electricity to Kulekhani I's substation. Two of the towers were damaged by the flood.
