What you should know
The testing of the transmission line of the 102 MW central Bhotekoshi hydropower project constructed in Sindhupalchowk has started on Wednesday. The project, of which Chileme, a subsidiary of Nepal Electricity Authority, is the main promoter, will start production testing within a week.
Ramgopal Sivakoti, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Bhotekoshi Hydropower Company said that since the work of Bahrbise substation has not been completed, electricity will be supplied through a 40 km transmission line of Nyukhimti substation. Therefore, the electricity tested at Khimti substation was tested on the line connected to the power house of Bhotekoshi. "Now we will start production within a week," Sivakoti said, "The machine testing of the project's dam, tunnel and power house has been completed. After the transmission line has been tested successfully, there is no problem in power generation. According to him, only 220 kV power is being sent to central Bhotekoshi in the 400 KV power transmission line of New Khimti. There is a plan to connect the electricity generated by
to the national grid through the Dhalkebar substation. Almost 14 years after the start of the project, it is almost certain that the power generation will start. The project was started in 2068 due to local obstacles, internal administrative problems of the project, covid, floods, landslides, earthquakes, obstacles at the Indian border, etc. Kulman Ghising started the work including selecting the contractor for the project. When Radha Gyawali was the energy minister, even after Ghising was forcibly transferred, the construction of the project was stopped for some time.
The project's tunnel is 7.5 km long, with Chakuma Dam in Bhotekoshi village on the border of China and Jambuma Power House in Bahrbise municipality. Last year, after sending water to the tunnel, it was repaired due to leakage. Now all the structures of the project have been tested. The cost of the project based on the Run of the Cheever in the Bhotekoshi River has exceeded 20 billion. At the time of starting the project, the cost was estimated at 12 billion 33 million 28 million. Due to not being able to complete the project and generate electricity within the specified time, they are only paying the interest of the loan of more than 5 million per day. Due to the increase in investment, it is estimated that the cost of electricity production will exceed 21 million. It is estimated that the annual income of the project will be 2.8 billion.
