In the first month of the current financial year i.e. July, Birgunj Customs Office has collected 18 billion 39 crore 67 lakh rupees in revenue. This is only 87.68 percent of the monthly target. This month, the target of revenue collection of 20 billion 98 crore 21 lakh rupees was achieved by this customs.

This customs has been able to collect such amount of revenue in the first month after the merger of the country's two largest customs offices, Birganj Customs Office and Sirsia Dry Port Customs Office.

Deepak Lamichhane, Chief Customs Administrator of Birganj Customs Office, says that the monthly revenue collection target could not be met due to the decrease in the import of petroleum products and the rainy season. But he said that in the month of July of the current year, more revenue has been collected than in the month of July of the last financial year.

In the month of July last year, this customs collected 12 billion 16 billion 32 million rupees in revenue. The target was to collect 16 billion 86 crore rupees in that month. Thus, comparatively, this customs has collected more revenue in the month of July of the current year than the target of the month of last year, he said.

For the current financial year, this customs has got the target of revenue collection of 2 trillion 73 billion 39 billion 48 lakh rupees. By the end of July, 6.73 percent of the annual target has been collected.

Birgunj Customs Office, which is known as the country's highest revenue collector, collects the highest revenue from the import of fuel and new vehicles. After that, it collects considerable revenue from the import of alcohol, iron products and various industrial raw materials.

Due to its geographical proximity to Kolkata, Haldia and Visakhapatnam ports and now being connected by railway, the import and export activity through this customs point is more than other points in the country.
