The profit of Nepal Electricity Authority has decreased in the financial year 2081/82. On the occasion of the authority's 40th anniversary, Executive Director Hitendradev Shakya informed that the profit before tax has dropped to 9.67 billion rupees.

At present, 2919 megawatts of electricity is being produced through 204 projects run by the private sector. Similarly, 142 projects with a capacity of 4303 megawatts are under construction. According to the Authority, 148 projects with a total capacity of 4203 MW are in various stages.
In 2081/82 alone, Shakya informed that 31 private promoters had 932 MW hydropower projects and 8 promoters had 170 MW capacity solar project purchase agreements. According to him, so far a power purchase agreement (PPA) worth 11,436 megawatts has been signed with the private promoter.
