Mandu Hydropower, which was damaged by floods in Bagmati due to incessant rains on October 11 and 12, has resumed power generation. After the reconstruction, Mandu Hydropower has started generating electricity again.
The project has produced only 50 percent of its capacity in the first phase. The power generation capacity of Mandu Hydropower is 22 MW. Manoj Singh, senior technician of Mandu Hydropower, said, "We are producing 11 megawatts of electricity in the first phase after the reconstruction. Now we will be producing electricity at full capacity soon. Due to some technical problems, we have produced only 50 percent of the capacity.' The flood of Bagmati River damaged the headworks, powerhouse, penstock pipe and electricity tower of Mandu Hydropower, which is producing electricity by keeping a production house in Bhimfedi Rural Municipality-8 Bagmati Dobhan in Makwanpur. Chief operating officer Sunder Shrestha said that the flood has caused more than one billion damage to Hydropower, which has been producing 22 megawatts of electricity since 2075.
'The flood in Bagmati caused unimaginable damage to the hydropower, we have repaired it and started generating electricity again,' Shrestha said. The road from Sisneri market to the project site was damaged by the flood.
Mandu Hydropower Company of the private sector and a Chinese company have jointly invested electricity from Bagmati water. With the help of Siichwang Heichwang Company, Mandu Hydropower Company started the construction of Bagmati small hydropower project from June 2072 with an investment of four billion. The project was inaugurated on Chait 19, 2075. Mandu Hydropower Company had an agreement with the Nepal Electricity Authority to sell the produced electricity at 4 rupees 40 paisa per unit during the rainy season and at 8 rupees 40 paisa per unit in winter. The substation of Kulekhani I is at a distance of 13 and a half kilometers from the powerhouse of the
project. 42 towers have been constructed to deliver the generated electricity to the substation of Kulekhani I. Two of the towers were damaged by the flood.
