The responsibility of operating the Sirsia dry port has again been given to the Indian company Pristine Mega Logistics Park. From Thursday, this company got the responsibility of operating the port for another 5 years. Earlier, this company operated this port for 5 years under the name of Pristinon Valley Company in a joint venture with Nepali company Valley Terminal Pvt Ltd.

According to Hemendra Mohan Shahi, consultant/advisor of Pristine Mega Company, Pristine Mega was the main competition with another Indian company, Konkar Corporation India, in the tender called by the Inter Modal Transport Development Committee. Pristine has won the tender for 4 billion 71 crore rupees . Konkar had announced to operate the port at a cost of 4 billion 509 million rupees. Konkar is a sister organization of Indian Railways.

Sirsia Dry Port, which has been operating since 2004, is the first and largest dry port of Nepal. Spread over an area of 38 hectares, the maximum capacity of this port is 1,586 containers. But due to the obligation to always manage more containers than the capacity, the port management company has been facing problems . From this port, which is connected to the Indian railway network, goods are imported and exported through Kolkata, Haldia and Visakhapatnam ports in India. Sugar, chemical fertilizers, iron, coal, etc. are also imported from India.

The Intermodal Transport Development Committee has been giving the responsibility of operating this port to the private sector since its inception. For the first decade and a half, this port was operated by the Himalayan Terminal Company . The said company also belonged to the Indian company Konkar.

While there is a separate customs office in the port since its inception, the Sirsia dry port customs office has been merged with the Birgunj customs office with the beginning of the current financial year. Now this port will be under Birgunj Customs Office.

According to Shahi, during the period of 5 years, Pristine Valley has deployed a total of 5,470 railway racks in this port, including 3,471 containerized rail racks, 1,171 BCN racks carrying bagged cargo, 549 BRN racks carrying iron and 279 loose cargo racks. is .

During this period, 3 lakh 4 thousand 295 cargo containers, 25 lakh 96 thousand 8776 metric tons of sacked goods, 13 lakh 2 thousand 1 hundred8 metric tons of iron goods and 1 million 34 thousand 334 tons of loose cargo were imported from India and third countries.

Hari Gautam, President of Birgunj Industry and Commerce Association, said that although it is welcome that the old company is operating the dry port again, the company should focus on providing more quality services to the importers and exporters while improving their old shortcomings.
