Farmers have demonstrated in front of the sugar industry to protest against the reduction of sugarcane subsidy.

At a time when investment in sugarcane cultivation is increasing, the farmers protested against the reduction of sugarcane subsidy by the government on Tuesday in front of Everest Sugar and Chemical Industries located in Gaushala of Mahottari.

Naresh Singh Kushwaha, President of Sugarcane Growers Farmers' Federation, Mahottari, said that the sugarcane farmers protested the government's decision symbolically. President Kushwaha said that their demand is to correct the decision of the government to play with the future of farmers by cutting subsidies at a time when relief should be given and to continue sugarcane subsidies. President Kushwaha said, "If the demand is not met by August 6, we will be forced to sit in Kathmandu from August 8."

After the government cut sugarcane subsidy in the budget, the farmers are protesting. The sugarcane farmers have protested against the reduction of subsidy received by the farmers from Nepal government at the rate of 70 rupees per quintal.

Mahashankar Thing, a central member of Sugarcane Producers' Federation, said that the sugarcane farmers have started a symbolic protest by burning tires against the government's decision in the sugar industry districts on Tuesday. Addressing the

program, LOSPA leader Devanarayan Mahato said that it is a shame for the government to cut subsidies when farmers cannot get fertilizers and payments in a timely and subsidized manner.

Mahato alleged that the agricultural office and branches could not provide any concession to the farmers.

After the government of Nepal did not pay the sugarcane subsidy for the financial year 2081/082 at the rate of 70 per quintal, about 1.6 billion rupees, and it was not even addressed in the budget of the financial year 2082/083, the struggle program was announced.

The meeting of the Federation of Nepal Sugarcane Producers on Monday, July 12, 2082, held in Sarlahi Hariwan, has demanded that sugarcane farmers be encouraged in sugarcane cultivation.
