69 lakh 65 thousand stock market investors, only 42 lakh investors in the secondary market

The number of investors investing in shares has started to reach about 70 lakhs. According to CDS and Clearing, so far 69 lakh 65 thousand 561 people have opened demat accounts for investing in shares.

But not all investors who have opened a demat account have traded shares in the secondary market. According to the data of Nepal Stock Exchange, currently 41 lakh 89 thousand 677 people have opened accounts for share trading in the secondary market.

Among them, 26 lakh 51 thousand 20 are men, 15 lakh 28 thousand 611 are women and the remaining 10 thousand 46 are institutional investors (others) according to NEPSE data.

In this way, not all of those who have opened an account for trading in the secondary market are active. Many are inactive. According to NEPSE, only 12 lakh 48 thousand 855 people are active in the secondary market. NEPSE has been calling investors who have done at least one transaction in the last year as active investors.

At the end of May 2082, the number of companies listed in Nepal Stock Exchange Limited has reached 272.

Among the listed companies, 132 are banks and financial institutions and insurance companies, while 91 are hydropower companies, 23 manufacturing and processing industries, 7 hotels, 7 investment companies, 4 trading organizations and 8 other groups. In May 2081, the number of listed companies was 270.

Among the listed companies, the share of securities market capitalization of banks and financial institutions and insurance companies is 52.1 percent. Similarly, the share of hydropower companies is 16.1%, the share of investment companies is 8%, the share of production and processing industry is 5.5%, the share of commercial organizations is 5.3%, the share of hotels is 2.8% and the share of other group companies is 10.2%.
