The Executive Director of Nepal Electricity Authority, Hitendradev Shakya, has instructed the concerned officials of Madhya Bhotekoshi hydropower project to be in a state of preparedness to check the leakage of the tunnel and ensure that the power house and other structures cannot be flooded.

The project, which is one of the largest projects to be built entirely with indigenous skills and capital, completed all preparations for production from Wednesday. Director Shakya directed to ensure that there is no water leakage in the 7.2 km long tunnel under the project .

All the infrastructures including the power house have been instructed to arrange the necessary security arrangements so that all the infrastructures are safe from the floods that may come to Bhotekoshi. Shakya instructed to construct structures like sliding barricades in the power house and to make arrangements to protect the project structures from possible floods in other areas.

The Madhya Bhotekoshi project, which is about to start production after a long wait, has a total capacity of 102 MW. Located at Dam Marming (9 Chaku) and Power House at Jambu, this project aims to generate 542.2 million units of electricity annually. Although the construction work of the project was completed a few months ago, the production could not start due to the confusion of the transmission line.

Initially, the goal was to connect to the electricity system through the Bahrbise-Lopsiphedi transmission line, but after not getting an agreement with the locals, they tried to move it to Lamosanghu. Since it was not possible there, now preparations are being made to connect it to the national system through the Dhalkevar transmission line through the New Khimti 400 KV substation owned by the authority.

The construction of the project started in 2070 had to face many obstacles such as Jure Landslide in July 2071, devastating earthquake in May 2072, subsequent blockade, flood-slide, covid-19 epidemic and recently confusion of transmission line. Due to this, the project has been delayed in starting production. 102 MW central Bhotekoshi hydropower project ready
