The process of construction of a dry port has started in Dodhara Chandni Municipality. With the handover of the site to the Indian construction company on Tuesday, the pre-construction work of the physical structure has started.
The site was handed over by the Intermodal Transport Development Committee on Tuesday to Comt Construction, which was contracted to build the dry port. "Construction will start formally only after the Prime Minister of the two countries jointly lays the foundation stone," Ashish Gajurel, executive director of the Intermodal Transport Development Committee said, "now the work will be done from clearing the site to removing the cover and building the company's office."
The work of uprooting the felled trees and cleaning the bushes has already started in that area since Tuesday. Preliminary construction work is currently underway. Gherbar work has also started. Now the area of the dry port construction site has been separated by burying the flag. The work is expected to be completed within the next three years. "Dry port is not just about importing goods, it is business infrastructure. From here we can also export to Europe and America,' Gajurel said, 'Now we also have to establish an industry for export.'
Comt Construction has won a contract worth 2.4 billion baht for the construction of a dry port. Construction Managing Director Sharma said that the contract agreement has been signed so that the work can be completed within three years. "The site has been handed over, now we will do the pre-construction work," said Sharma, "After the foundation stone laying, the construction work will proceed."
1,702 trees covering 42.36 hectares of Gourishankar Community Forest in Dodhara Chandni Municipality-1 have been cleared for the construction of a dry port. Now the work is being done to remove the trunks of those trees, remove the bushes and fill the holes. The road from the malaria drain to the construction site has also been constructed.
Even though more than 42 hectares of land was discussed for the dry port, now the structure will be built on only 25.3 hectares. Administrative building, godown, kitchen, security, quarantine house and load and unload shed will be constructed in that area. Also, a wall will be built on all sides. "Though it is delayed, the construction of the dry port is going to start, it is a matter of happiness for us," said Tej Chand, a businessman who is also a member of the Industrial and Investment Promotion Board.
He said that the dry port will not only help in the development of Far West but also in Nepal. It is expected that the Prime Ministers of the two countries will jointly lay the foundation stone during the Prime Minister's visit to India in August. According to the construction company, other structures will be built only after that. A four-lane concrete bridge has been constructed on the Mahakali river for the dry port.
About 8 km access road from Gaddachouki to Malaria Nala has also been constructed. At some places, the access road is yet to be paved. On the Indian side, the access road from Chakkarpur to the dry port of the national highway is being constructed. Since two years ago, the construction of an access road has been going on in that area.
