What you should know

It has been confirmed that the Sinamangal Air Fuel Depot, which is considered highly sensitive, will be moved. With the preparation of the detailed project report (DPR) required to build the new depot, it has been confirmed that the depot will be moved.

The cabinet meeting on June 28, 2081 decided to transfer the endangered Sinamangal depot. With the government's decision, Nepal Oil Corporation, Aviation Fuel Depot Sinamangal entrusted Tribhuvan University Institute of Engineering Studies (Consultancy Service) Pulchok to prepare the DPR. And an agreement was signed with Institute of Engineering Studies for DPR on 5th November 2081 .

After submitting the DPR report prepared by the study institute after 8 months to the corporation, it has been confirmed that the depot, which is considered sensitive, will be moved. In a program organized on Thursday, Assistant Dean Suraj Lamichhane and Associate Professor Narayan Gautam of Institute of Engineering Studies Pulchok handed over the DPR to Sinamangal Depot Chief Pradikumar Yadav and Accounts Chief Prachanda Pathak. It is estimated that it will cost 6 billion 54 crore 29 lakh 5 thousand 57 rupees to transfer the depot to DPR.

The government plans to transfer the currently operational depot to the golf course of the Nepali Army at Guhyeshwari. The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAN) has designated a location to relocate the aviation fuel depot to the north-west of the airport at a distance of 500 meters from the center line of the runway on the west side of the International Aircraft Parking Apron. Regarding the price of land, it has been stated that the land of all locations within the airport is the same, the land was acquired for the depot in the past and it is necessary to transfer it according to International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards.

Depot transfer cans have to cut about 200 trees . The Council of Ministers has already given permission to cut trees in 2077. But CAN has been delaying to clear the land . Yadav, the head of the depot, said that the work of emptying has started now. We will call for international bids next August. There is a 45-day tender . In the next 15 days, we will start the work in November after completing the evaluation with the help of engineers from the Corporation and Pulchok. We will start air fuel distribution from the new depot by November 2084,' Yadav said, 'If the land is provided early, we can build it within two years.' The next day, a team including Industry, Commerce and Supply Minister Damodar Bhandari, Executive Director Chandika Bhatt also inspected the land. After the inspection, Minister Bhandari also asked for immediate transfer.

MPs have also been demanding that the depot, which is considered very sensitive from the point of view of security, should be moved so that it can be used in the long term. In the industry and commerce and labor and consumer welfare committee meeting held last August, most of the MPs demanded to move the depot immediately . Nimg was also interested in the transfer . The corporation claims that it will speed up after the DPR is made. Yadav also asked CAN to clear the site in two months.

The Civil Aviation Authority has proceeded with the site clearance work by allocating four forts of land at the place where the depot will be constructed. "According to international standards, there should be 172.5 meters from the runway to the taxiway. Now it is only 90 meters . According to CAN's master plan, when the airport is expanded, the vertical tank of the corporation will be included,'' Anupam Parajuli, an engineer of the corporation, said, "The current depot has also become very old . The old infrastructure is not suitable for adopting new technology.'
