Discussion between federal ministers to solve the problem of drinking water and irrigation in Madhesh

Discussions have been held between four different ministers to solve the problem of drinking water and irrigation in Madhesh. Due to the lack of drinking water and irrigation in 8 districts of Madhesh due to drought, a discussion was held on Monday between Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Deepak Khadka, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ajay Chaurasia and Water and Sanitation Minister Pradeep Yadav at the initiative of Agriculture and Livestock Minister Ram Nath Adhikari.

The secretaries of all four ministries participated in the meeting held at the Ministry of Energy.  In the meeting, the minister informed that a team has been mobilized to study the fact that due to very low rainfall in Madhesh, planting could not be done. He said that the ministry will do more work based on the suggestions given by the team. 

The meeting stated that there is also a problem of drinking water in Madhesh and has formed a working group to study it. It is said that the task force will immediately identify the problem and find ways to solve it quickly. During the discussion, Water Resources and Irrigation Secretary Sarita Dawadi said that only 50 percent of the Terai has irrigation facilities. He mentioned that underground water is the best solution for irrigation and drinking water. In the

meeting, the minister said that since the government has given high priority to solve the farmers' problems, more coordination between the four ministries is necessary for this.  Energy Minister Khadka said that the government is ready to provide drinking water and irrigation facilities to the people as soon as possible and said that all ministries should coordinate and complete the work as soon as possible.
