What you should know

It was found that 68 vehicles were swept away by the flood that occurred in Bhotekoshi on June 24. Out of these, 42 electric vehicles were swept away by the flood, according to the data prepared by the Rasuwa Customs Office. There are 5 Sinotruk brand trucks.

Tulsi Prasad Bhattarai, Chief Customs Officer of Rasuwa Customs Office, said that 18 freight vehicles brought goods from China and kept at the customs yard in Timure were swept away by the flood. The flood also swept away one Toyota Hilux, roller and tripper belonging to a Chinese company that was building a dry port. Chief Bhattarai says that the spare parts of the stolen vehicles have not been found.

"Some of the vehicles swept away in the flood had passed customs inspection and some were in the process of being inspected," Bhattarai said.

"Now there are two cargo vehicles carrying apples in Timure, the apples have started to rot," he said, "we will see first, if only a small number of them are rotten and if the businessmen want it, we will pass the customs inspection."

'Currently, the cargo vehicles stuck in the flood are in the yard, they have not been able to be removed, we have taken out only those that can pass from the flood and moved them to a higher place,' he said, 'We have not been able to remove the ones that cannot pass.'

"29 cargo vehicles are trapped in the flood in the yard, we have taken out the goods in those vehicles and put them in a safe place," he said, "11 electric vehicles that have been flooded are in a state of inoperability."

The Miteri bridge connecting the two countries was swept away by the floods in the Lhende river. China is preparing to install a temporary belay bridge at that place. He said that vehicles started to cross between Nepal and China by building a bridge and there will be no parking space for vehicles waiting for customs inspection. The customs yard was built by the Chinese government. Construction of the yard was started two years ago in an area of about 58 ropani with a subsidy of 2 billion 16 million rupees from the Chinese government.

The flood swept away the yard that could accommodate 400 freight cars. The construction company and workers were all Chinese. "The matter of how to build the yard washed away by the flood should be resolved from the highest level," he said, "so far there is no information about how to build it."

68 vehicles washed away in Bhotekoshi flood, 11 damaged Ashish Gajurel, executive director of Nepal Intermodal Transport Development Committee, said that discussions are underway on whether China will rebuild the yard washed away by the flood. "The yard was being built by the Chinese government, the construction company is also Chinese," he said.

Large cargo vehicles are not plying on the flood-damaged Syafrubensi-Rasuwagadhi road. From Sunday, the road has been opened for one-way movement of small and light vehicles. Some large passenger vehicles have also started plying through this road. Customs chief Bhattarai said that the road is not allowed to run on the road because the road is flooded when large cargo vehicles pass at once. The road built now is narrow. He said that after a few days, the issue of allowing large cargo vehicles to operate is being discussed.

"The target of revenue collection was 30 billion 20 million rupees, of which 30 billion 15 million rupees have already been raised," he said, "In the last financial year, it was estimated that the revenue collection would be up to 150 percent, but due to the flood, it could not be completed."
