The middle part of Kailashnagar Batase in Tansen where there was a terrible bush. In the evening, local hooliganism was going on. At that time, it was like not being able to eat. There were flute players around. When it rained, the house groaned. There were not many houses around. I was afraid to even sleep.
74-year-old Savitra Bhusal, president of Hotel Srinagar Pvt. Ltd., located in Palpa's Tansen, recalls the year 2032 and says, 'In a way, the building was built in the middle of the forest with bushes.' During the day, the jackal used to howl . Even if there was a small wall, the fox would come inside. There were eight double bed rooms in the building. There was a hall (doormat) . A kitchen, staff room and a small house for operation were built.'
There was no one he knew in Tansen, who lived in Nuwakot house in Bhumikasthan, Arghakhanchi. Even so, she started a hotel with the help of some local people. She said that she has come to the present situation through many ups and downs.
When Tansen started Hotel Srinagar in Kailashnagar in the year 2032, there was no motorway. Had to walk from Arghakhanchi. She said that at that time, Tansen succeeded in getting 8 ropani land from many people of Kailashnagar.
Hotel Srinagar is currently operating in an area of about 13 ropani. "This 50-year journey is not less of a struggle," she said, recalling the past, "if the then Ward President Devidhwaj Shrestha had not played a role, she would have probably gone back." We want to remember him even now.'
Srinagar Hotel started with the vision, dream and serious commitment to social responsibility of late Jayaprakash Bhusal (husband of Savitra). He is working as a leader of the government project "Smallpox Eradication" after B.Sc. Bhusal had no experience in the hotel sector. However, she remembered that she started Hotel Srinagar as a tourism business with confidence and vision.
Late Bhusal's favorite destination was Palpa's Tansen. "That's why he had the idea of making Palpa a major tourist destination in West Nepal," Savitra recalled, "this short-sightedness inspired him to leave the government service and enter the tourism sector." He got permission to establish a three star hotel from the Ministry of Industry. There has also been a successful attempt to take land on lease at the science campus complex in Batase. But Savitra said that the lease was not successful due to the internal conflict of Tribhuvan University. She said that after not getting the land, the locals provided the land with the idea of developing this area and creating jobs.
"At that time, being a three-star hotel, bread, carrots, cheese and other materials were not available," she said. 80 percent of the materials needed by tourists were procured from Kathmandu. It was very challenging at that time.'
Hotel Srinagar created a website after the internet started . 70 percent of information was about Palpa itself and 30 percent about hotels. She said, "My husband's thinking is that if Palpa comes to publicity, the hotel will run itself." The policy we have adopted till now.'
She remembered printing a colorful brochure from Thailand with the aim of introducing Palpa. 90 percent of that was the material that identified Palpa . Only 10 percent was about hotels . "Almost 70 percent of the estimated cost of the hotel at that time was spent on land purchase," she said, "redesign, construction and strong capital were necessary." Taking a loan from the government NIDC at a high interest rate, it took two decades to repay the same loan.' Jayant said, "At that time, my father (Jaiprakash) did not stop even if he got a lot of debt". Went to work . This hotel has become the choice of foreign tourists. After that, I can say that it has been successful.'
He said that after getting the responsibility of the managing director, he worked in the hotel with the vision of more quality service, skilled manpower, expansion of modern facilities, sustainable tourism . Stating that the target of inclusion of 'wellness tourism' has been taken, he said that the work has been progressed under the strategy of upgrading four star hotels. He estimates that the investment in the hotel has reached nearly 500 million at the current valuation.
Currently Hotel Srinagar has 40 guest rooms (including VIP, Super Deluxe, Deluxe). There are three meeting halls, two kitchens, bakery, three restaurants (250 seats). There are two bars, three stores, coffee shop, swimming pool, jacuzzi, spa (sauna, hot bath), children's park, planned gardens. "We have added investment for the tourism of Palpa," he said. According to
manager Bhusal, Hotel Srinagar has provided cook training, housekeeping, guide, hotel management training in collaboration with Hotel Management and Tourism Training Center on its own initiative. Due to this, Palpali youth, local people and people from surrounding districts are engaged in various tourism professions . He said that some of them reached home and abroad and became successful businessmen. "We have considered this to be a long-term social plan of Hotel Srinagar," he said.
Managing Director Bhusal said he would never forget the 10-year armed conflict. On the night of January 18, 2062, this hotel had to bear the brunt of the double clash between the army and the Maoists. Managing Director Bhusal, recalling the armed attack centered on Hotel Srinagar, said, "That night, most of the hotel structures were destroyed by firing from both sides." The walls, rooms, windows, doors, all structures of the hotel were destroyed by the rain of bullets. We were completely helpless.' He remembered that he had to live on his own strength and self-restraint even though he did not get any compensation or help at that time.
During the conflict, Nepal's tourism business had reached a state of collapse. The arrival of tourists was stopped . The business had reached nothingness . It was difficult to get drinking water in Tansen. He told that it was not possible to operate a swimming pool and jacuzzi for 50 years. He openly praised the encouragement of Mohan Shrestha and Mahendra Khati of Tansen Water Consumer Committee for adding more facilities to the hotel.
Businessmen of Pokhara, Bhairahawa, including the mayor of more services observed on the occasion of reaching 50 years. Santosh Lal Shrestha, Mayor of Tansen Municipality, said that the hotel sector has contributed a lot to the tourism promotion of Palpa. "The overall development of Palpa is possible only through tourism and agricultural production," he said.
Chief District Officer Toynarayan Subedi said that the idea of 50 years ago for tourism development is not a reality. "It is this determination that has succeeded now," he said. As a result, Indian tourists go to Pokhara via Bhairawa, Lumbini and Palpa, said Chandra Prakash (CP) Shrestha, president of Siddharth Hotel Association Bhairawa. He suggested that since the foundation of the Palpa Hotel Association has been laid, now proceed institutionally. Laxman Subedi, president of Hotel Association Pokhara, said that Palpa will participate as a partner in any tourism promotion program organized in Pokhara.
