What you should know

Residents of Devchuli Municipality-5 Bandipur in East Nawalparasi have started to earn income by cultivating Bhuni Kathar commercially on 5 acres of land. The new generation here has commercialized the subsistence farming that was done by the ancestors in Pakha before.

Now the main source of income for the local residents of this settlement is Bhunikatahar. Keshari Phal Magar of Devchuli-5 Bandipur settlement has planted more than 4000 groundnut plants . Farmers are attracted to it because it is more profitable than other crops. Magar's family alone sells floor cutters worth about three lakhs at a time . You don't have to work hard in this farming. Since this can be done along with other farming in one place, we have done this farming professionally," she said. Now we sell in cash from home.'

Until a few years ago, when the motor did not arrive in the village, it was forced to carry it on a doko to Daldale and Kawasoti market. But now as the vehicle reaches the front of the house, it is easy for the farmer. Locals have started farming even on barren land.

Rashmi Bahadur Phal Magar of Bandipur has also been cultivating Bhuin Kathar. Magar said that in the past, ginger cultivation was done on the slopes of the hill, and the profit is more, the labor is less and the market price is better than that of ginger. Now it is being sold for 50 to 80 rupees.
