82 megawatts of electricity promoted by the Lower Solu hydropower project operating in the Himalayan district of Solukhumbu has been connected to the national transmission line.
The hydropower project, which started construction in 2017, started production on July 4 and was connected to the national transmission line for testing. The 132 kV transmission line of the Solu Corridor in Lammane was connected on Sunday. The
project has a dam site in Salme on the border of Solukhumbu's Solududhakunda Municipality-11 Tingla and Ward-7 Garma. Electricity is generated by dropping water through a tunnel at the powerhouse in Tingla Bhadaure, 6.2 km below Salme.
The project has extended 4.2 km of tunnel and 2 km of underground pipeline to generate electricity from the water of Solukhola through the run-of-the-river system and dropped water in Bhadaure.
Project Assistant Manager Krishna Chaudhary said that the project, which was completed with a loan investment of about 17 billion from the FMO Bank of the Netherlands, will generate 82 megawatts of electricity in the rainy season and 20 to 22 megawatts in the winter.
Although the goal was to produce electricity in 5 years after the construction started, it was able to start production after 8 years after facing various difficulties. Assistant Manager Choudhary said that the project succeeded in achieving its goal by overcoming various difficulties due to geographical difficulties, local problems, financial resource assurance problems. It is expected that this will help to meet the electricity demand of Koshi region.
