The workers will now get a minimum salary of 19,550. In a tripartite agreement between the government, employers and trade unions, it has been agreed to determine the minimum wage of workers working in areas other than tea plantations at 19,550 rupees.

This will be effective from July 1.

Minimum Determination Committee Chairman Pradeep Koirala convened a meeting held at the Ministry of Labor on Thursday to determine the wages of workers. This is an increase of 2,250 rupees compared to the previous two years. In the case of tea garden, there will be further discussion with the concerned parties.

Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Security Sharatsingh Bhandari said that the minimum salary has been determined on the basis of consensus by all the three parties maintaining flexibility in order to smooth the industrial relations. There was not always an agreement between the employer and the worker regarding the setting of wages. As there was no agreement between the two parties, a situation was being created where the government had to intervene,'' he said. As of Wednesday night, the employer and the trade union could not agree on the new salary. Employers stood at 19,500. Trade unions were stuck at 21,000. However, the trade union came to an agreement after the employer was ready to increase Rs 50 more.

Earlier, the salary of Nepali workers except for tea plantations was fixed at 17 thousand 300 rupees including allowances. In which the basic salary was 10,820 and dearness allowance was 6,480. The hourly wage of the laborer is 89 rupees. In this, workers get Rs 56 as basic wages and Rs 33 as dearness allowance. The hourly basic wage of a part-time worker is Rs 95. This salary, which was implemented from July 1, 2080, has expired on June 32. According to the Labor Act-2074, a new minimum wage must be fixed every two financial years.
