The country's two largest customs, Birganj and Sirsia dry port customs, have collected more than 2 trillion 25 billion 75 crore rupees in the last financial year. But both the customs could not meet the annual revenue collection target.
Birganj Customs Office has collected 80.35 percent of the target and Sukkha Bandargah Customs Office has collected 82.97 percent of the target.
According to the data of Birgunj Customs Office, this customs has collected 1 trillion 75 billion 93 million revenue in the last fiscal year while getting 2 trillion 18 billion 95 million revenue collection target. The dry port customs office has collected 49.82 billion 37 million rupees against the revenue collection target of 60 billion 487 million 97 thousand last year.
The revenue collection of both customs is more than the previous year . In the previous year, Birgunj Customs collected 64.01 percent of the target, i.e. 1 trillion 57 billion 40 million rupees. Sirsia dry port had collected 71.75 percent of the target, i.e. 47.31 billion rupees, out of the collection target of 65.94 billion rupees in the previous year.
Deepak Lamichhane, Head of Birgunj Customs, said that the lack of import and export business is the main reason for not collecting revenue as per the target . "Relatively, the import and export business could not be done," he said, "because of that we could not find the annual revenue collection target." Overall, both customs have succeeded in collecting more revenue than the previous year, he said.
Goods are transported by rail from Sirsia dry port customs checkpoint. Iron goods and alcohol are the major contributors to the revenue of this customs, while fuel and new vehicles are imported more at Birganj customs post.
On the first day of the current fiscal year, from Thursday, the government is merging both customs and operating under the name of Birganj Customs Office.
