In the financial year 2081/082, a total of 631 MW of electricity has been connected to the national transmission line. According to the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, the total connected capacity has reached 3878 MW.
Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Deepak Khadka has claimed that significant progress has been achieved in the development of physical infrastructure, power generation and international trade along with significant policy reforms in one year.
He claimed that 80 percent progress has been achieved according to the performance agreement at a press conference held at the ministry on Thursday on the occasion of the completion of one year of holding the ministry. The Ministry has made an action plan in accordance with the performance agreement with the Prime Minister and has proceeded with the work in a result-oriented manner since 'Day One'.
'Before I became a minister, around 3200 megawatts of electricity was produced, now 3878 megawatts are being produced and connected to the national transmission line, and more than 8000 megawatts of electricity are being sold in India and Bangladesh every day,' he said.
The Ministry of Energy has for the first time issued the Energy Development Roadmap-2081 and has set a target of producing 28,500 megawatts of electricity by 2035. A financial plan worth 46.5 billion US dollars has also been prepared for that. The roadmap is expected to lead the country towards energy self-sufficiency and an export-oriented economy.
An agreement has been reached to export 15,000 megawatts of electricity to India and Bangladesh, while the target is to consume 13,500 megawatts domestically. For the first time in Bangladesh, by selling 40 megawatts of electricity for dollars, it has been ensured that an income of more than 1 billion 250 million will be generated in five months .
He claimed that the outstanding dispute of dedicated and trunk line would be resolved soon. Stating that the report of the Girish Chandra Lal Commission was made public, Minister Khadka said that according to the commission's report, he has instructed the Authority and the Electricity Regulatory Commission to resolve the arrears dispute and not to spare a single penny of the amount due.
