The Chinese technical team has completed the survey of the second section of the ring road. According to the road department, the survey was completed after two and a half months. For this, the technical team came to Nepal on 6 Baisakh.
The team surveyed 8.2 km from Kalanki to Vasundhara culvert. Arjun Prasad Aryal, head of the department's Development Assistance Implementation Division, said that the design report will be submitted within three months after the technical team returns to China. "The team that came to study is returning to China within a week," he said. Aryal said that after the
design comes, the road department will look at it within a month and include the issues that need to be reduced and approved. "There is a plan to call for contracts within five months, which will take place in China," he said, "the construction company selected from there will start expanding." Chinese government company CCCC First Highway Consultants and 18 technicians from Xi'an Fangzhou Engineering Consulting were assigned to conduct the survey.
According to Aryal, a survey was conducted to construct a flyover at Machhapokhari Chowk due to traffic jams. Where the bus can stop, that place has been designated in the design. Sushilbabu Dhakal, Head of Development Assistance Coordination and Quality Division under the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, said that it is proposed to build a bridge instead of a culvert at Dhungedhara near Vanasthali. "We have requested the Chinese technician to maintain the length of the bridge so as to create a way that can be crossed from the right and the left," he said.
At present there is a four-lane road from Kalanki to Sitapaila and a two-lane road from Sitapaila to the circular path section. Now, after the expansion, it will become an eight-lane road apart from the service lane. On August 6, a letter regarding cooperation was signed between the representatives of Nepal and China. The work of Koteshwar-Kalanki first section started in 2069 and was completed in 2075. A GTOG agreement was signed with China in 2018 to extend the Kalanki to Vasundhara culvert. Accordingly, it is now going to be expanded with the support of the Chinese government.
Similarly, the construction speed of the Chappal Factory section from Narayangopal Chowk under the extension of the third section of the ring road has slowed down. Although it is said that the work can be done by June, the progress is only 35 percent. Narayanadatta Bhandari, Head of Road Division, Kathmandu, said that the base and sub-base are being laid to blacken the one-way road.
'We are working to pave one-way road till June,' Bhandari said, 'It has rained, so we have not been able to work as planned, now this section will be completed by Dasain.' The Kalanki-Vasundhara section was said to be built with the help of the Chinese government, but after the delay, the Nepal government has started the expansion of this section with its own investment. Ambuja/SK/Kali JV has taken the road extension contract for 700 meters of that section.
