Mine exploration has been started to re-operate the long-closed Okharbot copper mine in Malika Rural Municipality, 3 and 4 border Pakhop of Myagdi.
According to Motiprasad Budhathoki, Ward President of Malika Rural Municipality, Room 3, a team consisting of geologists from M/S Dongyi Minerals Pvt. Ltd., which has permission from the Department of Mines and Geology to explore copper mines, has started the on-site study.
Geologist Ronit Paudel led team has conducted an environmental test of Okharbot copper mine to conduct a preliminary study on copper storage and mining possibilities in Okharbot copper mine, which has been excavated based on Raithane's knowledge and skills, but has been closed for a long time.
Mines are important for operating industries based on raw materials available in the country. But many precious minerals and precious materials in Myagdi are lying unused.
According to the Department of Mines and Geology, gold, copper, iron, quartz, copper, limestone, stone, slate, marvel and hot springs are found in Myagdi. Copper is the main mineral found in the district.
The copper mine located in Khatendanda, Malika Rural Municipality, 4 (Savik Okharbot-8), which was excavated by local miners using Raithane technique, is the main one. Although the locals Dilgnarayan Bhattachan and Dilip Sherchan have been operating the Okharbot copper mine since 2018, the copper mine has been closed since 2046 due to lack of modern technology.
'Due to the lack of suitable technology, we could not take the risk and closed the mine. Dilip Sherchan, former mine owner, said, "The traditional ship of mining has been stalled since the mining department did not get permission to re-excavate the mine to transfer it to the younger generation. "Now that the road and electricity have reached the mine, it is time to re-mine and pass on our knowledge and skills." Okharbot Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality, 1 Gurja, 5 Macchim, Raghuganga Rural Municipality, 6 Thadakhani, 8 Jhinkhani of Chaur. Although there are copper mines in 21 places, all of them are closed. Due to the non-operation of the mines in different places, the ship transfer of the local 'miners' skilled in mining has not been possible.
Malika village head Beg Prasad Garvuja said that with the municipality trying to re-operate the copper mine of Khatendanda, the exploration of the quantity and possibility has been started before the mining of Okharbot copper mine.
There are not only copper mines, there are also iron mines in Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality, 9 Malkwang and Raghuganga Rural Municipality, 8 Mangale.
Chantyal caste is considered to be an expert in discovering and mining copper and iron mines. Chantyals are proud of themselves as a mining tribe. Iron and copper mines are found wherever the Chantyal caste lives.
A 'mine' is attached to the back of the village where there are sparsely populated areas. Similarly, there is a quartz crystal mine in Gurjadanda located between Dhavalagiri Rural Municipality, 1 Gurja and Sohi Gapa, 4 Mudi, and in Arya Community Forest of Raghuganga Rural Municipality, 6 Kotgaon.
According to the records of Division Forest Office Myagdi, a few years ago, 1 thousand 311 thousand 380 tons of quartz crystal which was excavated from Dhavalagiri Rural Municipality, 1 Gurjadanda and taken to Kathmandu was seized by the Forest Office. Locals say that some people take the 'white shining stones' found here and carry them in bags.
Asaman Gurung of Dhavalagiri Rural Municipality, 4 Mudi was arrested on 11th February 2016 by the Forest Office after obtaining permission from the Department of Mines and Geology to search for quartz stone from the same Gapa, 1 Gurjadand, and then he was arrested by the Forest Office and registered a case of 'illegal transportation of forest products (white stone)'.
District Court Myagdi on 03 February 2016, obtained permission to search for quartz stones from the Department of Mines and Geology and ordered to release the seized quartz stones due to the nature, results, importance and proposed testing or analysis of the minerals found during the search for 'industrial level quartz stones'.
'Many minerals including quartz and copper are found in Magdi. There are copper mines that were first mined by locals. Until a few years ago, many people came to the district to explore minerals including gold and copper with approval from the Mining and Geology Department, but now exploration has decreased. Chandramani Sapkota, Assistant Forest Officer of the Division Forest Office, said, "The Forest Consumer Committee has informed that some outsiders come from the mountains of Kotgaon and dig quartz crystals and carry them in bags." Finding pieces of gold in the sand is considered a strong basis for gold mining in the source area of the river. A few years ago, a Chinese company explored gold mines in the Kaligandaki river area in the grassy area. But the locals could not know what happened to that study.
Likewise, Kayun Pvt. Ltd. obtained permission from the Department of Mines to excavate gold mines in Beni Municipality 1 Ratnechaur and Parvat Nangliwang area from the website of the Department of Mines and Geology, but it has not been revealed whether exploration has been done.
The purchase of non-mineral materials is another important. There is a Kharidhunga mine in Raghuganga rural municipality, 2 Bhagwati of the district. When Gautam Mineral Industry Bharatpur, 4 Chitwan (ASDC Asia Pvt. Tripureshwar, Kathmandu) tried to operate the Kharidhunga mine here, it was sued by the authority for not having the approval of the Forest Department, but the excavation was stopped and could not be resumed.
Minerals are not the only minerals, gems and stones are also found in abundance. In Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality, 5 Macchim, there is a mountain of Aparak. There is a mountain of bright and shining stone (quartz) near Ghurmkhola under Gurja Himal.
'The mountain of mineral quartz sparkles at night', Jhak Bahadur Chantyal, the ward president of Dhaulagiri rural municipality, 1, said, 'The sparkling stone was arrested by the police when the locals tried to take it out for identification and processing.'
dimension stones are also in the district. Marvel is found in Dagurnepani area of Annapurna Rural Municipality, 5 Sikhs and 6 Ghars. There is a slate quarry in Malika rural municipality, 3 rooms. Slate stone is found in more than a dozen other areas of the district. Among those found in the district, hot springs are the main under energy minerals.
Such energy minerals are found in Mudi and Singa of Myagdikhola, Dagnam of Rahughat river and Tiplyang, Ratopani, Tatopani and Narchang of Kaligandaki river. The smell of Virenun comes from the spring of hot water in Singa. The hot water near Narchang is salty.
Around the Tatopani spring here, the walls and the river bed of Kaligandaki are covered with salty matter. Although there is no scientific research and exploration, the possibility of salt and salt mining has been given abundance here.
