Gold and silver traders have demanded abolition of luxury tax on gold and 13 per cent value added tax on diamond-gemstones.

The government has announced a 2 percent luxury tax on gold and 13 percent VAT on diamonds and gemstones in the 2082/083 budget. The businessmen said that such tax is not practical and demanded to cancel it immediately. After meeting Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel, the businessmen, who submitted a letter of attention, have announced a street protest by closing their shops on Thursday and Friday.

Nepal gold and silver businessman and coordinator of Kaligarh Sangharsh Committee Bipin Ramudam said that he met Finance Minister Paudel on Wednesday and drew his attention to it.
