International Manpower Recruitment (IMR) was given the certificate of International Recruitment Integrated System (IRIS) on Monday for ensuring transparency, fair process and protection of labor rights in the field of foreign employment. IMR is the first manpower company in Nepal to get an international certificate.
IMR applied for this certificate a year and a half ago. Its deadline is 21 May 2027. Since 2018, IMR has sent 18,000 workers to Qatar, United Arab Emirates and Malaysia at zero cost. The recruitment process of the workers who went that way was tested by "International Associates Limited" in the UK. According to Iris, there are only 5 manpower companies in the world that have received this certificate so far. Among them, one manpower company each from Singapore, Poland, Nepal, Kenya, Mexico has received Iris certificate.
YB Rai, Managing Director of IMR, said that since 2018, the recruitment process has been completely ethical and exploitative in accordance with international standards and commitments regarding labor recruitment. "As a result of which, we were able to be recognized internationally as an ethical manpower company," he said, adding, "This has opened the way to safe and respectful employment for Nepali workers." The access of Nepali workers to employment in multinational companies has been expanded.'
He said that additional responsibility has been added to manpower to fully comply with the International Labor Organization's fair recruitment principles, human rights standards and the principle that the employer bears all the fees related to recruitment. "We are committed to protect workers from unnecessary charges, fraud, exploitation and abuse in the recruitment process," he said.
According to Jeevan Baniyan, director of the Center for the Study of Labor and Mobility, which works in the field of migration, the Iris certificate is the highest standard developed by the International Organization for Migration (IOM). This ensures ethics, transparency, accountability and fair treatment in the labor recruitment process. The manpower company that received this certificate is a proof that its recruitment process is clean, humane and labor-centric,'' he said.
