Gold and silver businessmen have protested demanding the abolition of the 2 percent luxury tax imposed on gold and silver jewellery. Nepal gold and silver businessmen and Kaligarh Sangharsh Samiti led the agitation to draw attention to the government's tax on gold and silver.
On Sunday, they protested with a rally from New Road Gate to Indrachowk Double. As the law recognizes gold as an asset like cash, the Sangharsh Committee demands that the 2 percent luxury tax imposed on gold should be abolished.
Similarly, they demand that the 13% value added tax imposed on diamonds and jewels should be abolished and the old system should be restored, the laws, laws and procedures related to gold and silver should be issued immediately for the benefit of consumers, jewelry manufacturers and Kaligarh businessmen, and arrangements should be made for jewelry manufacturers and Kaligarh businessmen to purchase gold pieces of 50 grams and 100 grams openly on the basis of PAN number and tax payment certificate.
