The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has given various suggestions to develop the Far West province as a sustainable and inclusive tourist destination. The suggestions based on the Far West Integrated Economic and Tourism Development Study were presented on the eve of the Tourism Consultative Conference and Investment and Development Conference.
In the presence of ambassadors, heads of development partner organizations, federal and state government representatives and private sector leaders, a program on investment opportunities in the Far West region was held in Dhangadhi on Wednesday.
At the request of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, ADB completed the study and 2022 state tourism master plan has been created.
'The natural beauty and cultural heritage of this province are very unique, but the potential of tourism has not yet been fully utilized,' said Arno Koshwa, National Director of ADB for Nepal, 'The study has shown that the Far West can be transformed into a prosperous tourism economy through targeted investment in connectivity (transportation network), tourist destinations and the development of human resources. We are proud to support this thinking/vision.''The
study points to the need for advanced infrastructure development to enhance access and ensure a balanced distribution of inbound tourists in the country. Also, the study mentions the need for regional cooperation for overall tourism circuit and development of eco-friendly (tourist) destinations, good governance, skilled manpower development and private investment attraction .
"When we develop tourism in the Far West, we should pay special attention to how to ensure the protection of its natural beauty and environment for future generations," Koshwa said. Foreign Minister Arju Rana Deuba, Industry, Commerce and Supply Minister Damodar Bhandari, Forest and Environment Minister Ain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri and Sudurpaschim Province Chief Minister Kamal Bahadur Shah participated in the
event.
