The Computer Association of Nepal Federation (CAN Federation) has welcomed the budget presented by Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel in the Federal Parliament for the upcoming financial year 2082/83 as information and information technology sector friendly. The federation has also expressed its gratitude that most of the 25-point suggestions submitted to the government have been included in the budget.

President of CAN Federation, Sunaina Ghimire Pandey mentioned that the budget has clearly identified information technology as an industry for the first time and mentioned that the main demand that they have been keeping for a long time has been addressed .

The decision to impose only 5 percent income tax on the income of individuals who export information technology services abroad and tax exemption for five years to start-up companies is considered by the federation to give energy to innovation and entrepreneurship . In developing the second edition of the Digital Nepal Framework, CAN believes that programs such as the construction of an information technology park in Kathmandu, the upgrading of an integrated data management center, the development of cloud infrastructure and the establishment of a data center in the Madhyapahari region will strengthen the foundation of the digital economy.

4G service quality improvement, 5G expansion, cooperation with the private sector in AI and machine learning research, the use of indigenous software in government agencies and the strengthening of cyber security have shown the government's commitment to the development of a technology-based governance system, according to CAN Federation. Chandra Vilas Bhurtel, Secretary General of the Federation, has pointed out that although the budget announcements are positive, effective implementation is a major challenge.

If the plans put forward by the government are successfully implemented, the CAN Federation expects that the information technology sector will make a significant contribution to the overall national economy with the creation of jobs and increase in service exports.
