Young designer Vardan Devkota has added a new design to the clothing brand 'Bhama' collection. Varadan has launched a new collection of clothes 'Sorel' at the Nepal Art Council on Saturday.
'Sorel', which consists of 6 dresses, has been marketed with the names of 6 women (Sumi Devkota, Sneha Rana, Dr. Arpana Shah, Dr. Smriti Maske, Namgyal Singh, Ina Shrestha).
6 months ago, Varadan started designing 'Sorel' after getting his degree from 'London College of Fashion'. He said that this collection is dedicated to the names of 6 women who influenced him.
''Sorel's collection is named after 6 women and their existence is behind it. These 6 women have their own story and history. While growing up, we saw many women around us but we never knew their story,' said Varadan, 'so I designed Sorel for the existence of these women and their contribution.' Six women stood on stage with Varadan while launching the new collection on Saturday. A video of them wearing Varadan's new collection was also released on the screen.
'Ina Set' is a white color kurta. It has a beautiful use of stitches. Varadan said that although it looks ordinary, its beauty is what makes this dress beautiful. Dedicated to Sneha Rana, the green colored dress is a Jaipuri floral patterned kurti.
It has been publicized as a 'friendly set'. This dress has been designed targeting both summer and winter seasons. The beauty of Dr. Smriti Maske Set is its uniqueness. "This dress is easy to wear, it can be worn from office to home," Varadan said, "If you look at this dress with pleasure, the combination of stitches also looks beautiful in it."
Varadaan's mother Sumi Devkota has a pink dress named after her. She loves the color pink, so Varadaan matched this collection with Pakistani kurtis. "This design is influenced by the Pakistani kurta," Varadan said. Varadan has also incorporated printed designs in another collection in light pink color. He said that 'The Aparna Set' will be worn with shoes.
Namgyal set is a three piece set made in black color. Jaipuri print is also incorporated in this dress. A Jaipuri print is found on the top with a beautiful arrangement of stitches. This set is a dress full of bounties. Many have liked this set. I am happy,' he said.
Varadaan has released many collections in his 4-year fashion design career. Earlier in 'Capsule', the collection was made public with the idea that if you use some of the clothes you have in a different way, it will be sustainable.
The second collection was launched targeting the youth, which included a collection of crop tops and skirts. I think Nepali fashion should reach the world. I am ready to do anything for that," said 24-year-old Varadan.
