The government has kept the taxes and duties on the import of electric vehicles unchanged. Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel has said that the tax on electric vehicles, which has been increasing every year, has been kept unchanged for the next financial year.

"In order to encourage the use of electric vehicles and reduce environmental pollution and increase the internal consumption of electricity, all types of taxes and duties imposed on such vehicles have been kept unchanged," he said.

Paudel has also said that there is a 1 percent customs duty on the importation of the equipment required for the production and assembling of electric vehicle charging stations and no other tax duties. According to him, arrangements have been made to give income tax exemption to such industries for 5 years.
