The government claims that access to information technology has reached the common sector in Nepal. In the economic survey of the current financial year 2081/82, it is mentioned that the e-governance system is expanding in all three levels of government. Even in the latest e-government survey of the United Nations, the condition of Nepal seems to have improved, but the condition of Nepal is weak among the South Asian countries.
According to the economic survey, access to broadband internet service has been extended to 6,533 ward centers at the local level. The density of internet customers has reached 144.23 percent. The survey showed that access to digital television has reached 72.0 percent of households.
In the e-governance development index published by the United Nations every two years, Nepal ranks 119th out of a total of 193 countries in 2024. Earlier, Nepal, which was ranked 125th in 2022, improved by 6 points.
Among the South Asian countries, Nepal is in a weak position in providing electronic services. A United Nations study report has pointed out that Nepal's electrical service delivery is poorer than other countries except Afghanistan and Pakistan in this area.
