Surkhet Airport will be closed till Saturday. Construction was started after the airport was closed for two days due to a hole in the runway. After finishing the work in one place, the airport was closed again after the water came out from the ground in the second place.
Since Tuesday, flights have not been able to take place from the airport due to water coming out of the ground on the runway.
On Tuesday, there was a sudden pothole on the northbound runway. Airport chief Hirajan Kafle informed that water started coming out from the ground again on the same day when the hole was being repaired. He said that the airport was closed after the water receded. He said that the work will be completed by Saturday and the air service will be resumed.
He said that although there is work to reach the place where the water is found, there is a need for geological research. Due to the closure of the airport, it is now necessary to reach Nepalgunj for air travel.
