The hailstorm that hit on Wednesday morning has damaged the vegetables planted commercially by the farmers of Kapurkot Rural Municipality-1, 2, 5 of Salyan. 250 farmers of Sarpani, Garpa and Sallam have been affected by hailstorm.
The farmer has informed that the vegetable plants and beds kept for planting have been damaged. Pradeep Basnet of Kapurkot-5 Sallam said that the cauliflower planted on 10 plants of land was destroyed by hail along with the rain. I was earning up to 10 lakhs per year by selling cabbages and vegetables. So I used to run the household expenses. Hail destroyed all crops," he said.
Ujarsingh Pun, a farmer of Sarpani, said that the hail damaged vegetables such as golbenda, mutton pepper, beans, bodi, which had begun to grow in his garden. It cost more than 1 lakh to plant vegetables by spending seeds, weeding, fertilizer and labour. Now a plant is not moving when it is blooming," he said. Kapurkot-1 Ward President Balaram Khadka said that 80/90 farmers in his ward have been completely affected. He informed that it is estimated that the loss of 25-30 lakh rupees in the ward was caused due to the destruction of vegetable plants.
More than 4 thousand farmers of Kapurkot have been cultivating seasonal vegetables. According to the municipality, they are exporting more than 400 million worth of vegetables annually. Vegetables are the main source of income for farmers here. Kapurkot Rural Municipality Vice President Prakash Bhandari said that after the on-site study, the damage details will be made public and relief will be provided.
