Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Deepak Khadka has said that the government is serious about implementing the multi-purpose project with Tamor reservoir. In a high-level discussion held in the ministry in coordination with Minister Khadka, he said that the government is committed to move forward with the project by making a solid action plan.
In the discussion, a detailed presentation was made about the possibility of providing irrigation facilities in an area of more than one lakh hectares in Jhapa, Morang and Sunsari districts of Eastern Terai along with power generation from the 756 MW capacity Tamor reservoir project. It is said that this project, which will distribute water through the Chisang irrigation project, will contribute significantly to the development of energy, agriculture, job creation, water transport and tourism.
Minister Khadka reviewed the past situation of the project and said that it is a matter of concern that the construction process is delayed for a long time, concrete results are not coming despite the huge expenditure of the budget and investment cannot be accelerated until the dam is assured.
'The trend of not working but living with a license is no longer tolerated, the project can be progressed on the basis of completion on time through the public-private-partnership model,' he said .
Mentioning that many projects have been stalled due to lack of government coordination and coordination, Minister Khadka emphasized that the project should be implemented in a practical model without delay in view of the increasing interest of foreign investors.
