Physical Infrastructure and Transport Minister Devendra Dahal has urged South Korea to confidently invest in the development and expansion of Nepal's rail service.

In a meeting with the representative of the South Korean railway company Korel who came to meet with Minister Dahal on Tuesday, he asked for investment as the development and expansion of railway services is a priority of the Nepal government.

Since Nepal is a country rich in religious, cultural and touristic perspectives, Minister Dahal also requested for study and research on the expansion of train services targeting such destinations.

Mentioning that Nepal is creating an investment environment for the expansion of long and short distance rail services, he mentioned that various investment 'models' can also be discussed. During the discussion, Keshav Kumar Sharma, the secretary of the ministry, said that since there is a lot of potential for hydropower generation in Nepal, the expansion of electric railways will be useful.

discussion, Director General of Railway Department Ajay Mool said that discussions are being held with various partners for the development of railways in Nepal. Leading the Korean delegation  Han Moon Hee, CEO of Corel, said that the 126-year-old company has been working for the development and expansion of railways in different countries of the world. He said that more work can be carried out by creating an environment of strong trust between Nepal Investment Board, Railway Department and Korel for study and investment in Nepal.
