Energy Minister's directive to speed up completion of Sunkoshi Marine Diversion

Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Deepak Khadka has instructed the contractor company to find a solution for the early completion of the Sunkoshi Marine Multipurpose Diversion Project. Understanding the situation of Sunkoshi Marine Diversion Multi-Purpose Project's 'current situation of contract implementation, problems and challenges', he instructed to find a solution to complete the construction of the project of national pride as soon as possible.

"Even the Prime Minister has been interested in the progress of the Sunkoshi Sunkoshi Marine Diversion Multipurpose Project, why is there a delay in the construction of this project, find a solution to complete the construction as soon as possible," he said.

He expressed his concern that the development of the country has been delayed due to the tendency of the same contractor company to take on many projects and not complete the work on time. "You work in such a way that the country itself is ruined, even after spending billions of money, there is zero progress, how can the country develop in this way," he said. He says that while working on

, there will be disaster and risk, so we should take care of it and move forward. Minister Khadka said that even the Bheri Babai Diversion multi-purpose project under the Ministry of Energy was supposed to be completed in four years, but only 60 percent progress has been made in six years. He also asked the contractor company to pay attention to the project.

'This is not a personal matter, it is a matter of building the country, if every person ruins the country, how will the country develop,' he said.

Irrigation Secretary Sarita Duwadi said that the progress of the Sunkoshi Marine Diversion Multi-Purpose Project is very low.   'Even though the project has been visited many times by departments and ministries, the progress of the project has not been as expected, the project cannot be delayed by showing small things,' she said .

Director General of Water Resources and Irrigation Department Sanjeev Baral said that the construction of the project has been delayed due to the failure of the contractor to fulfill its repeated commitments.

After the first contract was awarded in 2021, the tunnel digging work was completed, but the construction of the headwalk was found to be slow, Minister Khadka ordered to speed up the problem by solving the problem immediately. Minister Khadka expressed his displeasure that even though the construction of the headwalk should be completed in 2027, after almost half of the time has passed, the total is 8.81 percent.
