From July to the end of March of the current financial year, 15 lakh 84 thousand smartphones have been imported into Nepal. As the mobile phone has become established as the main means of digital access, the rate of import has been steadily increasing.

Till the end of March of the current financial year, 15 lakh 84 thousand 956 smartphones worth 25 billion 38 crore 44 lakh 77 thousand rupees have been imported. According to the data of the customs department, the government received a revenue of 4 billion 73 crore 15 lakh rupees from this.

Last month, 14 lakh 70 thousand 78 smartphones were imported. By paying a price of 21.91 billion 83 lakh 60 thousand rupees for that, the government has received 4.85 billion 183 crores in revenue. 12 lakh 29 thousand 957 smartphones were imported in January and 11 lakh 11 thousand 556 smartphones in January.

It seems that an average of 2 lakh smartphones have entered Nepal every month. Most of the phones are imported from China. Till March, 11 lakh 70 thousand 83 smartphones worth 15 billion 94 crore 8 lakh 56 thousand rupees have been imported from China. Similarly, 294,822 smartphones from India, 1,028 from Vietnam, 816 from Japan, and 636 from the UAE have entered Nepal.

In the 9 months of the current financial year 2081/82, it seems that 21 lakh 426 SIM cards worth 77.71 lakh 62 thousand rupees were imported in Nepal. From this, the government has collected a revenue of 1 crore 91 lakh 31 thousand rupees. According to the latest foreign trade data released by the department recently, SIM cards are imported from 13 different countries including neighboring China and India.

During this period, 18 thousand 931 kg of recharge cards worth 1 crore 4 lakh 49 thousand rupees have been imported. 180 thousand 860 memory cards have been imported and 841 thousand 889 smart cards have been imported into Nepal.

Gadgets exported from Nepal

In recent years, a significant amount of information technology services are being exported from Nepal. In this way, the largest share of exported IT services appears to be software manufacturing.

While information technology services or software are being exported significantly, Nepal's hardware exports are low. One smartphone, 409 smartwatches, 6 mobile phone chargers, 31 multiple loudspeakers, 3 video recording devices have been exported from Nepal till the end of March of the current financial year.

There are 9 laptops and notebooks exported and their total export value is 4 lakh 68 thousand rupees according to the data of the customs department. Five of these laptops or notebooks have been exported to India and one each to Australia, Italy, Japan and the Netherlands.

This year, the price of a smartphone exported from Nepal to America was 1 lakh 70 thousand. The price of 400 smartwatches exported to the United Arab Emirates is 680,000.
