All the roads that were damaged by the floods last October have been contracted. According to the road department, the work has been progressed with the contract on all but one section of the BP highway. The flood damaged about a dozen roads.
Keshav Kumar Sharma, Secretary of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, said that before the monsoon, these roads will be temporarily repaired and put into operation. "Roads damaged by floods will not be built permanently before monsoon," he said, "we will repair them temporarily." After the monsoon, the permanent construction work will speed up. The flood had damaged the 28 km area of the BP highway.
The contract has been made by making one package in Sindhuli and three packages towards Kavre. There is still one section of the contract towards Kavre. The contract for Nepal Thok-Barkhe Khola, Dalabensi-Char Saibensi section has been done. The contract has been invited on Chait 7 of Bhakundebensi section from Char Saybensi. Secretary Sharma said that the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has decided to work in the Dalabensi-Barkhe Khola section.
'The distance between Barkhe Khola and Dalabensi is 5.5 km, in which JICA has said that it is only possible to work on 3.2 km and the remaining 2.3 km,' he said, 'There has been talk of starting work on 3.2 km. He said that it will take two to four months to make a decision on 2.3 km and if there is no decision on this, the Nepal government will start it.
"If JICA decides to invest in this section, we will hand over the road before the monsoon," he said, "but if there is no decision before the monsoon, we will make the contract before June." Sharma said that Japan will build the road with grant support. According to the Ministry, JICA has done on-site observation and study for this. According to this, a two-lane road will be built.
The road will be built according to the standard of two lanes in the 28 km section. For the permanent construction and maintenance of the BP highway, Rs 8.5 billion was demanded through Road Division Bhaktapur and Khurkot. According to this, 7.5 billion rupees have been provided to Bhaktapur section and 1 billion rupees to Khurkot section.
