Biratnagar, the industrial capital that was once considered the political center of the country, is now busy with grand preparations. On May 18 and 19, the border town of Koshi is all set to witness the historic first investment conference.

The provincial government has set a target of bringing in an investment of one trillion 73 billion 49 crore rupees by promoting 71 projects worth more than 100 million rupees.

The conference, which is being held with the aim of attracting private and foreign investment in various sectors including tourism, physical infrastructure, agriculture, industry, energy, information technology and waste management, is claimed to be a 'game changer' for the economic potential and infrastructure development of the province. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is inaugurating the conference.

The government believes that the conference, which has the slogan 'Now the province itself will find the way to prosperity', will bring a new direction in the long-term development plan of the province. "Investors from more than 20 countries, NRNA representatives and distinguished businessmen from the private  sector are coming to Biratnagar," Saroj Koirala, Chief Executive Officer of Koshi Province Investment Authority, said in a press conference on Wednesday. He said that there will be a detailed discussion about the investment pattern, project feasibility and the role of the state government in the conference. Interior Affairs and Planning Minister Ram Bahadur Magar said that through the

conference, the province will not only attract investment but also create jobs. He said that he would draw a clear blueprint for industrial expansion and sustainable economic development. Koshi region is considered rich in natural resources, agricultural production and tourism potential. But stakeholders say that due to the lack of structural investment, the destination of prosperity has been overshadowed for a long time. The government hopes that the conference will become a 'link connecting local opportunities with global investment' by addressing that lack.

Not only the ruling party, the main opposition party CPN-Maoist Center also expressed its support for the goals and objectives of the conference. Indra Bahadur Angwo, the leader of the Maoist parliamentary party, said, "Whether the government asks for help or not, we will have our support in terms of bringing in investment.

Amending 8 Acts through Ordinance The Koshi State Government has prepared an important legal basis by amending 8 Acts through Ordinance for creating an investment-friendly environment. We have amended the necessary laws through an ordinance. By announcing the 16-point commitment, we have given a message of security and ease to the investors," said Minister of Internal Affairs and Law, Revathiraman Bhandari.

The amended laws include the Public Private Partnership Act 2076, Provincial Government Act 2076, Vehicle and Transportation Management Act 2076, Provincial Building Act 2076, Provincial Industrial Business Act 2077, Provincial Tourism Development Act 2076, Private and Partnership Firms Act 2077 and Provincial Forestry Act 2077. The provincial government believes that these amendments will not only open the door to investment, but also make the process easy, clear and transparent.
