Efforts have been made to make the economy viable: Rashtra Bank

Nilam Dhungana Timsina, Kamu Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank, has said that efforts have been made from the monetary sector to make the lax economy viable for a long time. Addressing the 70th anniversary of Nepal Rastra Bank, Timsina said that efforts have been made to make the economy viable from the monetary sector in the context of high liquidity and low interest rates as well as strong external sector indicators.

"According to the latest available data on public finance, foreign trade and economic growth, it can be estimated that economic activity is improving," she said, "Due to the relaxation in economic activity in the past, the loan recovery of banks and financial institutions has been somewhat affected. Due to the increase in the non-performing loan ratio, it is expected that the non-performing loan ratio will also improve with the improvement in economic activity." She also said that Nepal Rashtra Bank is determined to maintain overall economic stability through monetary, financial and foreign exchange policies. However, he says that there is still a risk that the economy may be under more pressure due to external factors such as US international trade and economic cooperation policy and geopolitical tensions.
