India's Power, Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has returned home after a two-day visit.
During the visit, Khattar met Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Deputy Prime Minister and Urban Development Minister Prakashman Singh.
Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Deepak Khadka and India's Electricity Minister Khattar inspected the power house and dam area of the Arun-3 hydroelectric project under construction with Indian investment. Along with the joint inauguration of 'Unit-2' of the
project, they also planted trees near the Power House. During the inspection, the minister took information from the contractor company about the progress of the project so far and the problems encountered during the construction of the project.
India's Power Minister Khattar said that Nepal is a country with immense potential in the field of hydropower and prosperity can be achieved through the energy sector. Arun-3 hydropower project, which was jointly laid the foundation stone by the then Prime Minister of Nepal KP Sharma Oli and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in May 2075, will be completed at a cost of one trillion four billion . Indian Sutlej Hydropower Company has got the project construction contract. Khattar visited the Pashupatinath temple on Tuesday evening.
In the presence of Energy Minister Khadka and India's Electricity Minister Khattar, a memorandum of understanding was signed to establish a joint company for the construction of 400 KV Inruwa-New Purnia and Dododhara-Bareli international transmission lines . The MoU was signed by Director of Nepal Electricity Authority Kamal Acharya and Director of Power Grid Limited India Yatindra Dwivedi.
Before the agreement, there was a formal discussion between the team of Energy Minister Khadka and Power Minister Khattar. Sandeep Dev, spokesperson of the Ministry of Energy, said that the agreement on the construction of international transmission lines and the various problems encountered in the Arun-3 hydropower project were discussed in the talks.
India's Electricity Minister Khattar also visited the Muktinath Temple on Wednesday morning. After that, he had a meeting with the Energy Secretary, former Energy Minister, Independent Energy Producers Association (IPPAN) and representatives of Nepal Chamber of Commerce and Nepal-India Chamber of Commerce at the Indian Embassy in Nepal.
India's Electricity Minister Khattar met Prime Minister Oli and Deputy Prime Minister Singh on Wednesday. According to the Urban Ministry, the interests of the two countries, mutual relations and cooperation in the field of urbanization were discussed during the meeting.
"There was a positive discussion about India's recent progress in the field of urban development, waste management and urban transport and cooperation in the future," said Gopal Sigdel, secretary of the Ministry of Urban Development, after the meeting.
Khattar said that a memorandum of understanding (MOU) is being prepared between the Governments of Nepal and India for the exchange of experience in urbanization and the mobilization of aid, and once it is agreed upon soon, formal cooperation between the two countries in the field of urban development will proceed .
The secretariat of Energy Minister Khadka said that the three-way substation under the Koshi Corridor 220 KV transmission line, which has been completed with the help of the Indian government, is also ready to be inaugurated at the same time. According to Khadka's secretariat, there is a program to jointly inaugurate Eenruwa-Basantpur-Baneshwar-Tumlingtar 200 KV transmission line and 220/133/33 KV Tumlingtar substation, 220/33 KV Baneshwar substation and 220/133/33 KV Basantpur substation from Sankhuwasabha's Tumlingtar substation. But the official visit schedule of India's Electricity Minister Khattar did not include the topic of inaugurating the substation of the Koshi Corridor, according to ministry sources.
