26 percent progress in Muglin-Malekhu road extension in 28 months

According to the agreement, after eight months, the work of expanding the western section under the Nagadhunga-Muglin road plan should be completed by December 29, i.e. December 14. An agreement was reached on December 30, 2022 to complete the 39 km road extension from Malekhu to Muglin within 36 months. But with only 7 and a half months left for the contract, only 26 percent of the work has been done.

Engineer Sachendra Mishra, who is the information officer of the western section of the Nagadhunga-Muglin road plan, confirmed that about 26 percent work has been completed so far. "Recently, as the pace of work has increased, we are aiming to complete 45 to 48 percent of the work by June," he said. He said that there is currently no other major problem except for the management of the vehicles that pass through the same road every day while the work is being done.

On the way from Narayangadh, there is an information board to give information about the project after cutting Muglin. Like the bad condition of the road, the notice board has also collapsed. Moving forward from that place, there is no sign of road expansion. After crossing a distance of two kilometers, the scene of a mountain cut that seems to be in progress begins to appear. After moving forward from the cable car station, the hustle and bustle of the road expansion can be seen.

Driver Vinod Acharya, who has been driving microbuses on the Shaktikhor-Kathmandu route for 11 years, is fed up with the condition of the road. There is great suffering in drought. The Narayangadh-Mughlin road is also facing the same problem. After Barkhayam, it was easy to reach Kathmandu from Narayangarh in three and a half to four hours. Now it takes at least five hours," he said.

Acharya told that it is very difficult for travelers when the road is dusty and potholed. Now I see that the destroyed place is being built. But it has been a long time since the construction of such a main road to enter the capital, it seems like there has been a lot of delay in the work," said Acharya. Along with road expansion, 6 bridges are also being built in this section. Engineer Mishra said that the work of four bridges will be completed within June.

Mishra says that the work of raising the pillars of the two bridges has also been completed. The road from Nagadhunga to Muglin is being expanded by making three sections. The work on the remaining two sections has not been completed. About two kilometers out of 39 from Malekhu to Muglin in the western section will be 6-lane. Engineer Mishra said that the roads in Benighat, Malekhu and Muglin market areas will have 6 lanes. Apart from these three markets, about seven kilometers of road will be four-lane in the rest of the area. Information Officer Engineer Mishra said that the roads in other areas will be convenient two lanes.

So far, four and a half kilometers of this road has been paved in different places. Engineer Mishra says that the work of the first base has been completed in two and a half kilometers.
