Gold reached around 2 lakh tola

The wedding season has started with Baisakh. In the past, jewelery shops used to be thronged during Lagan. But this year the jewelery shop is deserted. Businessmen say that even though some of them are crowded, there are people who come to sell rather than buy. The only reason for this is the daily record high in gold prices.

Due to the economic and political upheaval in the international market, the price of gold has recently been setting new records. After increasing investment in gold, which is considered a safe investment, its price is making records in the international market. It has a direct effect on the Nepali market. In the last 9 days, the price of gold per ounce in the international market has increased by 340 US dollars. The Nepal Gold and Silver Traders Federation has informed that the price has increased by 17 thousand 200 rupees in the Nepali market.

Jeweler Tejaratna Shakya said that there are more people coming to sell jewelery at this time. On March 26, when the Federation determined the price, the price of gold per ounce in the international market was $3,000. It was fixed at 1 lakh 73 thousand 400 rupees per tola in the Nepalese market. Since then, the price has been continuously setting records. By Chait 31, the price of gold reached Rs 1 lakh 86 thousand per tola. As 2082 Baisakh 1 is a public holiday, the federation fixed the price of 2081 Chait 31. Even then the price is increasing. Prices are setting records since Baisakh. The federation on Tuesday fixed the price of gold per tola at Rs 1 lakh 84 thousand 300. It was traded at 3,228 dollars per ounce in the international market.

Gold prices hit another record high on Wednesday. It was traded at 3,279 US dollars per ounce in the international market. In the Nepali market, per tola reached 1 lakh 87 thousand rupees. On Thursday, the price set a record. In the international market, per ounce was 3,340 dollars, but in the Nepali market, per tola has reached 190,600 rupees. Based on the price set by the federation, the consumer price is even higher. Because they have been determining the consumer price by adding 12 to 18 percent according to the design of the jewelry.

Diyash Shakya, the senior vice president of the federation, said that jewelry has not been sold recently. US President Donald Trump's policies and the trade war between the US and China have destroyed the market. The price increased after investors were attracted to gold as a safe investment. Currently, according to the quota system, commercial banks are allowed to import gold. Banks get to sell 20 kg of gold per day. To sell that gold, the government has also made a 'Gold Sale and Distribution Procedure/Guideline 2068'. According to the procedure, importers (banks) get 0.5 percent and traders get 0.5 percent (1 percent for banks and traders). Then 0.2 to 0.5 percent is added to the price as premium charge (fred charge, insurance).

10 percent duty on imported gold. The price is then determined based on international market prices and regulatory rates.
