The Birgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry has demanded the removal of ongoing undeclared load shedding in the Birgunj-Pathalaiya Industrial Corridor. The Union has issued a statement expressing concern about the unannounced load shedding and power cuts being carried out by the Nepal Electricity Authority. The union has demanded the authority to find an alternative way of load shedding.
It is mentioned in the statement that the industries in the corridor are operating at low capacity due to lack of regular supply of electricity in the form of oxygen to the industrial establishments. Industrialists, businessmen and general public were excited by the slogan of ``Bright Nepal'' and 'Free Loadshedding Industrial Zone' announced by the authority 5-6 years ago. But due to increasing power cuts, lack of quality power supply, the equipment and raw materials of the industries are deteriorating and the production process is also being negatively affected.
It is said that due to having to operate the industry from DG sets during the power cut, the production cost is increasing and the competitive ability is also being lost. It is mentioned in the statement that small industries are unable to operate DG during power cuts, so the industry has to be closed.
It has been said in the release that industrial equipment is damaged and raw materials are also being damaged due to tripping of 14/15 times in 24 hours in the industrial feeder located in Birganj-Pathalaiya industrial corridor. In order to solve such a problem, the association is of the opinion that a fixed period of load shedding should be fixed and quality electricity should be supplied during the remaining period.
The association has drawn the attention of the relevant bodies for a long-term solution as there is a problem in electricity supply every year during the winter season. The Union has also expressed the view that quality electricity should be supplied according to the amount of electricity tariff consumed by industries.
